About Murphy James Builders
Hi, we are Tye and Daniel, owners of Murphy James Builders.
We are passionate about helping people just like you achieve your dreams and specialise in custom homes and extensions.
Murphy James Builders happened almost naturally. In 2013 Tye had already been working for himself when he approached Daniel with an upcoming project that was too big for him to complete by himself. As a result, Daniel left his employment and started his own business and over the course of the next 2 years we worked together on a number of projects as separate businesses.
In 2015 Daniel left and moved to London on a working holiday, working on a high-end project in Chelsea for 18 months. Upon returning in 2017 we decided to "make it official" as we complemented one another's strengths and shared a strong pride in our work.
Together we have assembled a network of professional tradesman and suppliers who together work as an extended Murphy James Builders team. The Murphy James Builders team have a combined focus of making the building experience enjoyable for our clients, whilst also delivering high quality custom homes and extensions.
We maintain a strong focus on delivering projects on time and budget, whilst keeping our customers up to date with everything that is going on with their project.
Tye grew up in Gordon and completed his apprenticeship specialising in high quality extensions, renovations and custom new builds.
His desire to excel in the building industry drove him to start his own business with a goal of satisfying clients' needs and exceeding their expectations.
Daniel grew up in Ballarat and throughout his apprenticeship worked on a variety of commercial projects and residential new builds.
He too had a desire to start his own business with an aim to inject his perfectionism across all aspects of building.

Growing up, school holidays were always spent on the family farm and from an early age we were always helping whenever we could. At the age of 15 I was able to get some building experience with local builders in the holidays and instantly knew that this is what I wanted to do. At 17 I left school to start an apprenticeship.
Time away from work is spent with my partner Shannyn and young son Ollie. Any time spent with them is great. Simply spending quality time together at home, weekends away or planning things for our future. I still play football and enjoy the mateship and release it gives me. In summer I enjoy fitting in the odd game of golf.
I enjoy the challenges that come with building and enjoy problem solving with our trades and team. I am trustworthy, honest and reliable. I take pride in instilling confidence in clients that I will deliver a job with a high attention to detail.
Highlights
- Being offered an apprenticeship and progressing through at a rate which meant I was able to gain my qualification early.
- Completing my first house for a client as a qualified carpenter.
- Building reliable relationships within the building industry and the confidence to undertake any job.

Growing up my Dad was a wall and floor tiler, and my Pa was a carpenter. So from a very young age I would be helping the both of them at work and home. I would always be building things at home with scrap timber and offcuts. I can remember at the age of 13 that I wanted to be a builder with woodwork being my favourite subject at school.
Away from work I enjoy getting down to the local footy to watch my mates have a kick and I enjoy getting out on the golf course for a hit. I love travelling and have been lucky enough to visit a lot of different countries with the biggest highlight, buying a van and travelling around Europe for 4 months with my mates. Nowadays I have a daughter Millie and most of my spare time I enjoy watching her grow up and just spending time with her and my wife Cassie.
I am a pretty easy-going guy. I take a lot of pride in everything I do and appreciate quality workmanship. I am generally a pretty quiet guy who works hard but I am also friendly and approachable.
